<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">There is more to the Philippine surfing scene than Siargao’s summer swells or Baler’s gigantic waves. The country has over 7,641 islands located in the Western Pacific, and with it many spots that could be deemed as a surfer’s paradise.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Some of the most underrated surfing spots can be seen in the Bicol Region, which is filled with beaches, big waves, and breathtaking views. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Here are but a few choice surfing spots to visit when in Camarines Norte, Sorsogon, and Catanduanes. </span></p>
<p><strong>Bagasbas Beach, Camarines Norte </strong></p>
<figure id="attachment_3440" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-3440" style="width: 1920px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><img class="size-full wp-image-3440" src="https://www.7641islands.ph/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/PLYGRND-00456-scaled.jpg" alt="" width="1920" height="1280" srcset="https://7641islands.ph/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/PLYGRND-00456-scaled.jpg 1920w, https://7641islands.ph/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/PLYGRND-00456-300x200.jpg 300w, https://7641islands.ph/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/PLYGRND-00456-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://7641islands.ph/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/PLYGRND-00456-768x512.jpg 768w, https://7641islands.ph/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/PLYGRND-00456-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https://7641islands.ph/wp-content/uploads/2022/06/PLYGRND-00456-2048x1365.jpg 2048w" sizes="(max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-3440" class="wp-caption-text">Bagasbas Beach is a paradise for surfers of all ages. <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Barangay Bagasbas in Daet used to be a vast expanse of rice fields before it became known as the Surfing Capital of Bicol. </span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">Bagas</span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;"> means “rice” in Bicolano.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Bagasbas Beach, on the other hand, is a 5km stretch of gray-sand coast. Its seabed of pure sand makes it safe for beginners, and its expansive shores ensure that there is enough space for surfers to navigate the waves.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Despite being a public beach, the area is also well-maintained by Daet’s municipal office and volunteer groups. </span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">When Lola Rosario “Sayong” Escandor needed people to guard her coconut trees sometime in 2009, she commissioned the help of local surfers. She allowed them to practice in her beach lot in exchange. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Out of gratitude, these surfers treated the ocean that was entrusted to them as their home and vowed to keep it pristine. Today, this group managed to grow into a community of environmental preservation and responsible tourism advocates.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Lola Sayong Eco-SurFarm is an eco-friendly campground and accommodation site managed by the local community of Gubat, Sorsogon. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This 5km surf camp implements strict rules for visitors: no partying, no smoking, no drinking, no bonfire, no speakers, and no unnecessary noise at 10 P.M., and no single-use plastics. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Any profit from the camp is used to develop and support educational programs for Gubat’s out-of-school youth. Through their ‘No school no surf’ policy, the community encourages children who want to learn surfing to attend school. The kids are provided educational assistance on academic projects as well as lodging. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The local community also protects sea turtles through their Conserve Pawikan Program, where they free </span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">pawikans</span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;"> trapped in the local fisherfolks’ nets to the ocean in exchange of rice or a cash allowance. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Aside from surfing, kayaking, night snorkeling, fishing, mangrove walk, and virtual farming are just some of the activities visitors can do here. </span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">If Siargao has “Cloud 9,” Catanduanes has “Majestic” waves for its long-barrel surfs that break on Puraran’s reef in Baras. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This surf spot with cream-tinted shores became popular after photographer Warren Bolster featured it in the California-based </span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">Surfer Magazine </span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;">in 1980. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Since then, enthusiasts from all over the world travel to Puraran for its waves. This made it the first tourist destination in the province. Prior to the pandemic, local and international surfing competitions were held here annually.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Beginners are also welcome to test their mettle on the calmer side of this 5km beach. Behind the picturesque coves and rock formations are smaller waves newbies can practice on. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">And since not a lot of people go to this side of the country yet, signing up for lessons does not involve a long waiting time.  </span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Families who bond over inspiring stories of the past and good food will find a home at Casa Simeon in Bacacay. It was built in 1920 by husband-and-wife Simeon and Beatrice Alparce.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This century-old </span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">bahay na bato</span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;"> was restored by their grandson Enrico Alparce Calleja into a specialty lodging. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The old house remained habitable over the years and defied the ravages of war, typhoons, and volcanic eruptions. Its architectural design is fortified with concrete stones and first-class wood that’s meant to withstand time. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">They also have an in-house restaurant that serves Bicolano cuisines from the family’s heirloom recipes.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">While you’re here, don’t forget to say hi to the casa’s resident dog, Bingo. He usually hangs out in the kitchen.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Back in February 2014, Noli John Mercader was a beginner in skimboarding and surfing. He was just looking for a spot where he could chill and play with his friends.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Mercader and his group saw a place by the beach and approached its owner, Lola Sayong, who gave them permission.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">In return, the group must maintain the place&#8217;s cleanliness and prevent others from stealing coconuts. Soon after, with other aqua sports enthusiasts and locals visiting, a community of surfers was unexpectedly formed. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Lola Sayong Eco Surf Camp was born.</span></p>
<p><b>Stewards of Environmental Awareness</b></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Now a co-founder and operations head of Lola Sayong Eco Surf Camp, Mercader shares that they started with just around 10 members. Currently, the team consists of 72 people under the name of Gubatnon for Adventourism Inc.</span></p>
<figure id="attachment_3468" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-3468" style="width: 1263px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><img class="size-full wp-image-3468" src="https://www.7641islands.ph/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/PLYGRND-6508888-scaled.jpg" alt="" width="1263" height="1920" srcset="https://7641islands.ph/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/PLYGRND-6508888-scaled.jpg 1263w, https://7641islands.ph/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/PLYGRND-6508888-197x300.jpg 197w, https://7641islands.ph/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/PLYGRND-6508888-674x1024.jpg 674w, https://7641islands.ph/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/PLYGRND-6508888-768x1167.jpg 768w, https://7641islands.ph/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/PLYGRND-6508888-1011x1536.jpg 1011w, https://7641islands.ph/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/PLYGRND-6508888-1347x2048.jpg 1347w" sizes="(max-width: 1263px) 100vw, 1263px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-3468" class="wp-caption-text">Lola Sayong’s co-founder and operations head, Noli John Mercader. <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The camp not only serves as a beachfront resort or camping site. It has become a social enterprise manned by Sorsogon locals sharing the same passion for being active environmental stewards.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">&#8220;We want to keep it as is. We want to maintain its natural beauty,&#8221; the 42-year-old Mercader shares.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Upon check-in, tourists would notice that there are no lounge chairs, only hammocks tied around trees and benches made of bamboo. Amidst tall coconut trees are nipa huts that serve as accommodations for guests. They also have camp rules to further preserve the place.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">&#8220;Plastics and disposables are banned from the area. Party drinking is not allowed to avoid trash. Even karaoke,” Mercader enumerates.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">&#8220;It has become part of our advocacy that Lola Sayong is not just a tourist spot, but an example of environmental preservation.&#8221;</span></p>
<figure id="attachment_3466" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-3466" style="width: 1920px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><img class="size-full wp-image-3466" src="https://www.7641islands.ph/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/PLYGRND-307221-scaled.jpg" alt="" width="1920" height="1280" srcset="https://7641islands.ph/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/PLYGRND-307221-scaled.jpg 1920w, https://7641islands.ph/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/PLYGRND-307221-300x200.jpg 300w, https://7641islands.ph/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/PLYGRND-307221-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://7641islands.ph/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/PLYGRND-307221-768x512.jpg 768w, https://7641islands.ph/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/PLYGRND-307221-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https://7641islands.ph/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/PLYGRND-307221-2048x1365.jpg 2048w" sizes="(max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-3466" class="wp-caption-text">Unwind in a hammock amidst tall coconut trees. <p><b>No School, No Surf</b></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Mercader noticed that a lot of out-of-school youth were starting to enjoy surfing. Some even practice nonstop until they become experts.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">As they are starting to become a social enterprise, Mercader and his team wanted to encourage the youth to continue their studies. They imposed a No School, No Surf policy which prohibited surfing unless the young ones would go to school.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">&#8220;We also provide educational assistance. It&#8217;s not as big as full scholarships though,&#8221; says Mercader. &#8220;We help them with their projects. Sometimes, we assist them with lodging costs near their schools.&#8221;</span></p>
<figure id="attachment_3467" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-3467" style="width: 1920px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><img class="size-full wp-image-3467" src="https://www.7641islands.ph/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/PLYGRND-307377-scaled.jpg" alt="" width="1920" height="1280" srcset="https://7641islands.ph/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/PLYGRND-307377-scaled.jpg 1920w, https://7641islands.ph/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/PLYGRND-307377-300x200.jpg 300w, https://7641islands.ph/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/PLYGRND-307377-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://7641islands.ph/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/PLYGRND-307377-768x512.jpg 768w, https://7641islands.ph/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/PLYGRND-307377-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https://7641islands.ph/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/PLYGRND-307377-2048x1365.jpg 2048w" sizes="(max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-3467" class="wp-caption-text">Lola Sayong is ideal for both beginners and experts as they offer surfing lessons. Photo by Playground Films PH courtesy of the Department of Tourism.</figcaption></figure>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Since the kids have become surfing experts, they assist travelers and get shares that the organization receives from surfing lessons.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Tourists are charged Php 350 per hour. The young instructors get Php 200 in total. Php 150 is given outright, while the remaining Php 50 goes to their emergency fund.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">&#8220;This is to instill financial literacy. We give their savings at the start of the school year. They even have passbooks because we wanted to show them what happens in real life.&#8221;</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Since then, the surf camp has assisted 30 out-of-school youth under the No School, No Surf policy.</span></p>
<p><b>Pawikan Rescue Missions</b></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Hawksbill Sea Turtle, locally called </span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">Pawikan, </span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;">had been a long-time delicacy in Sorsogon. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Mercader shared that it was not a secret to the community that </span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">Pawikan</span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;"> were being hunted for food since his childhood. Due to poachers, the species dwindled.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">With this, the staff of Lola Sayong ran </span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">Pawikan</span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;"> rescue missions wherein they created an incentive system with the local government unit of Gubat, Sorsogon.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Poachers or those who accidentally found baby </span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">Pawikans</span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;"> could have it exchanged for cash and rice. </span></p>
<p><b>Upholding Cultural Filipino Games</b></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The team behind Lola Sayong Surf Camp also continues to share the ingenuity of Filipino culture. Locals would often invite tourists to participate in childhood games such as </span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">Sungka</span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;">,</span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;"> Tumbang Preso</span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;">, and </span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">Tirador</span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;">.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">It was a success, according to Mercader, as guests started to visit the site not just for surfing but also for these games and programs.</span></p>
<figure id="attachment_3469" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-3469" style="width: 1920px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><img class="size-full wp-image-3469" src="https://www.7641islands.ph/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/PLYGRND-307198-scaled.jpg" alt="" width="1920" height="1280" srcset="https://7641islands.ph/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/PLYGRND-307198-scaled.jpg 1920w, https://7641islands.ph/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/PLYGRND-307198-300x200.jpg 300w, https://7641islands.ph/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/PLYGRND-307198-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://7641islands.ph/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/PLYGRND-307198-768x512.jpg 768w, https://7641islands.ph/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/PLYGRND-307198-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https://7641islands.ph/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/PLYGRND-307198-2048x1365.jpg 2048w" sizes="(max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-3469" class="wp-caption-text">Relax by the beach. <p><b>Surfing through the pandemic: From Surf Camp to SurFarm</b></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The COVID-19 pandemic greatly affected the social enterprise.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">&#8220;Since tourism and Lola Sayong operations were put on hold, we lost 90% of our income. So we had to look for a solution,&#8221; says Mercader. Eventually, his team came up with virtual farming to sustain the needs of the community.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">With virtual farming, the investors, mostly former guests of Lola Sayong Eco Surf, could invest in crops, vegetables, chickens, pigs, cows, or goats.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“Sixty five percent goes to the surfers or locals who would take care of the crops or livestock while 35% goes to the maintenance of Lola Sayong.&#8221;</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The investors will receive interest from the investment or may opt to convert half of the principal into 15 nights worth of accommodations at Lola Sayong.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">This program gave way to fundraise and connect with past and potential guests. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">&#8220;That&#8217;s why we call it SurFarm now,&#8221; Mercader proudly states.</span></p>
<figure id="attachment_3470" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-3470" style="width: 1920px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><img class="size-full wp-image-3470" src="https://www.7641islands.ph/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/PLYGRND-307141-scaled.jpg" alt="" width="1920" height="1280" srcset="https://7641islands.ph/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/PLYGRND-307141-scaled.jpg 1920w, https://7641islands.ph/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/PLYGRND-307141-300x200.jpg 300w, https://7641islands.ph/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/PLYGRND-307141-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https://7641islands.ph/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/PLYGRND-307141-768x512.jpg 768w, https://7641islands.ph/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/PLYGRND-307141-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https://7641islands.ph/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/PLYGRND-307141-2048x1365.jpg 2048w" sizes="(max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-3470" class="wp-caption-text">Nipa Hut Accommodations at Lola Sayong. <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Sorsogon is Luzon’s southernmost province, filled with nature-based adventures. It is famous for being the country’s </span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">Butanding</span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;"> or whale shark capital where tourists can freely swim and interact with the ocean’s gentle giants. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The province’s name was derived from the word </span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">Sogsogon</span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;"> which means tracing the river upstream. Locals share that upon Spanish settlement, one group came across a waterway that we now know as Sorsogon Bay and were given directions that included the word </span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">Sogsogon.</span></i></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">And if you wish to do the same and discover Sorsogon’s pristine beauty aside from its rivers, here’s a guide that can help you make the most out of your trip.</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Matnog is the southernmost municipality of Luzon and the gateway to Visayas. Through island hopping, tourists may visit different spots such as Tikling, Juag Lagoon, Calintaan Cave, and Subic Beaches.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Tikling is privately-owned and guests are only given 15 to 20 minutes to explore the island. If you wish to stay longer and use the caretaker’s cottages, you must first coordinate with the local tourism office. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The beach is filled with palm trees and several domesticated wild boars can be seen within the area.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Next stop is the Juag Lagoon Marine Sanctuary where tourists can swim and interact with different aquatic species including the endangered Humphead Wrasse or </span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">Mameng</span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;">. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Make sure to not wear your sunscreens yet; travelers wearing lotions and creams are not allowed to enter to avoid contaminating the waters.</span></p>
<figure id="attachment_3455" aria-describedby="caption-attachment-3455" style="width: 1920px" class="wp-caption alignnone"><img class="size-full wp-image-3455" src="https://www.7641islands.ph/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/PLYGRND-0102-1-scaled.jpg" alt="" width="1920" height="1440" srcset="https://7641islands.ph/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/PLYGRND-0102-1-scaled.jpg 1920w, https://7641islands.ph/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/PLYGRND-0102-1-300x225.jpg 300w, https://7641islands.ph/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/PLYGRND-0102-1-1024x768.jpg 1024w, https://7641islands.ph/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/PLYGRND-0102-1-768x576.jpg 768w, https://7641islands.ph/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/PLYGRND-0102-1-1536x1152.jpg 1536w, https://7641islands.ph/wp-content/uploads/2022/03/PLYGRND-0102-1-2048x1536.jpg 2048w" sizes="(max-width: 1920px) 100vw, 1920px" /><figcaption id="caption-attachment-3455" class="wp-caption-text">Interact with aquatic life at Juag Lagoon Marine Sanctuary. <p><span style="font-weight: 400;">A quick stopover at Calintaan Cave is also recommended by locals. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Here, tourists will appreciate the tall palm trees and lush green mossy terrains above different rock formations. There are small cave openings where thrill-seekers will be allowed to swim.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The main destination, Subic Beach is actually composed of two adjacent islands separated by a short stretch of land. Locals refer to the bigger cove as Subic</span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;"> Laki </span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;">(big). The other, of course, is Subic</span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;"> Liit </span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;">(small). </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Both beaches are known for the powdery rose sand due to crushed red corals.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Subic </span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">Laki </span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;">has resort accommodations for overnight stays while </span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">Liit</span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;"> is known to be quieter, ideal for day tours and those who prefer to stay in open huts and benches.</span></p>
<p><b>How to Get There: </b><span style="font-weight: 400;">Matnog Island Hopping starts at Php3,000 inclusive of boat rental. Registration fee is at Php 70-100.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">It is highly recommended that tourists must coordinate with the Matnog Tourism Culture and Arts Office through their </span><a href="https://www.facebook.com/matnogtourismofficeofficialpage/"><span style="font-weight: 400;">Facebook page</span></a><span style="font-weight: 400;"> or +632 967 231 8168 prior visit. </span></p>
<p><b>Day 3: Swim with Whale Sharks at Donsol</b></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Plunge into the deep blue sea and interact with marine giants! A trip to Sorsogon would not be complete without visiting the Whale Shark Capital of the World.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">To manage visitors interacting with the whale sharks, locals established strict protocols. Before the trip, each boat has a designated Butanding Interaction Officer to ensure that rules are being followed.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Each boat is given a maximum of three hours to limit interaction with the whale sharks and only six tourists are allowed per boat.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Sightings are not guaranteed so locals suggest visiting during whale shark season that runs from November to June.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Swimmers must stay at least 3 meters away from the whale shark’s tail, touching them is prohibited and swimmers must never hinder or block the path of the whale shark. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Boat rental starts at Php5,000. Registration fee is at Php 300 per person while snorkeling gear rental is around Php200 to 300. </span></p>

<p><b>Day in the Life of Marine Sanctuary Caretaker</b></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Fifty-year-old Geneblazo is also a seaweed farmer married to a fisherman. But most of her time is spent taking care of marine life.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Sometimes her children would help her look after the sanctuary. </span></p>

<p><b>Resilience and Typhoon Devastations</b></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">“We really had a hard time during the pandemic because we lost visitors,” Geneblazo shares. </span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">Thankfully, the sanctuary gets assistance from the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources every quarter. “They would check the cleanliness of the water. Diagnose and monitor possible red tide,” she continues.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">In 2019, Geneblazo lost her biggest </span><i><span style="font-weight: 400;">Mameng</span></i><span style="font-weight: 400;"> due to Typhoon Kammuri (Tisoy). “When there’s a typhoon, we can’t do anything but hope we don’t lose them all.”</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The entrance fee to the property is not required, but they accept donations for its maintenance.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">According to Geneblazo, she protects and cares for marine life like family. “We opened this to tourists so they can see how to properly take care of marine life. We make sure to look after them.&#8221;</span></p>

<p><span style="font-weight: 400;">The Geneblazo family makes sure that all fishes stay healthy and full. &#8220;They even get their meals before us. They’re like my children,” Geneblazo laughs.</span></p>
