Staycations are a great way to unwind because they’re almost like a vacation. You get to relax and leave the confines of your home and work at a location that’s accessible by car. They’re also more affordable than a trip out of the country since you won’t have to pay for flights.

If you’re looking for a change of scenery, here are a few staycation spots that do that and more. These resorts and hotels are only two to three hours away from Manila, and have themed architecture and amenities that are both fun and relaxing.

Batangas

The crown jewel of Acuatico Resort is its infinity pool, which seems to meet the azure waters of the sea. If you look at it from afar, it’s as if the pool extends past the resort and into Laiya Beach. In fact, it has been recognized by the Huffington Post in its 2017 listicle of the “Drop Dead Gorgeous Hotel Infinity Pools Around the World.” For those craving for vitamin sea, the beach is just a few steps away, where you can enjoy watersports such as banana boating, flyboarding, jet skiing, and fly fishing.

In the resort, families can enjoy amenities, including the game room, a play area for younger kids, and a spa for parents who want to recharge. Acuatico is also pet-friendly, so the whole family can all relax together.

The resort also has different restaurants, from the all-day dining destination Oceano to the Western dishes at Azul Bar & Cafe.

Cocktails and mocktails, meanwhile, can be enjoyed at the Intimo Bar. Must-trys include the Crispy Pork Kare-Kare, with thrice-cooked juicy pork belly and the special Acuatico peanut sauce; and the Humbatangas, or beer-braised pork belly coated in a sweet soy glaze. Cap off the meal with Uraro Cheese Cake, which is filled with arrowroot cookies.

Acuatico’s Balinese-inspired rooms are a welcome respite after a long day of bonding with the family. Rooms at the Main Wing all have a view of either the beach or the infinity pool, promising another day of relaxation.

Rooms have their own veranda, where meals are served in an intimate setting. The La Prima Wing has its own private pool, bar, restaurant, and villas fitted with its own jacuzzi.

Camp Netanya

With white was walls and blue dome roofs, the architecture at this destination is inspired by Santorini in Greece. Camp Netanya is known for diving and snorkeling, offering a front-row view of Anilao’s rich biodiversity.

Those who’d like to stay above ground can try fish feeding at the Anilao fish sanctuary, an island-hopping experience at Ka Oscar or Sombrero Islands, kayaking, and seeing the busy marine life through a glass-bottom boat. Another highlight is a trek to Mt. Gulugod Baboy, with a panoramic view of the province at its summit.

Camp Netanya also hosts numerous activities for the family within its property. The infinity pool has a view of Balayan Bay. The supervised Kid’s Camp has child-friendly activities, where parents are welcome to bond with their tots.

A visit to Oia Spa is a treat after a long day communing with the sea. This oasis is the only spa experience in Anilao, complete with a steam room, dry sauna, and hot plunge. Licensed therapists beckon like sirens within Mediterranean-inspired rooms, offering unique spa treatments using nature’s products and essential oils.

You can have your fill, meanwhile, at Greeka, an all-day restaurant that serves hearty dishes such as pizza, pasta, kebabs, ribs, and steaks. Adults can toast to their health at Camp Netanya’s bars Fira and Crete, while partaking in the Anilao sunset.

The resort offers different accommodations. Bigger families can rent the Master Villa, a three-level space with five bedrooms.

La Chevrerie Resort and Spa

La Chevrerie is borne out of a French diver’s dream after visiting Batangas. He envisioned a place where he could let his pet goats roam freely (La Chevrerie is French for “The Goat’s Place”) and enjoy the view of the sea and sunset.

As there are only 13 rooms available, it is designed for privacy and meticulous care. This attention to detail is evident at La Brise Spa, where guests can have treatments using European products by the waterfront.

Dining is also elevated at L’Atelier. In-house chefs use the best ingredients to serve organic dishes and the freshest seafood. L’Atelier has its own wine cellar, curated only with the most premium labels.

La Chevrerie is a retreat, but it also has activities for families looking for an adrenaline rush. The resort offers diving and snorkeling to explore marine and coral life. A trek up Mt. Gulugod Baboy opens up a view of Anilao’s grasslands and the waters of Balayan Bay.

A cruise to an island can also be booked, which comes with a guided snorkeling tour and a seafood barbecue prepared by L’Atelier’s chefs. Younger kids who wish to stay at the resort can spend the day at The Playroom.

Rooms reflect the aesthetics of the French owner, blending European sensibilities in a tropical style. The cozy Villa is recommended for families, a homey interior that will make them feel like they have their own slice of paradise.

Twin Lakes Hotel

Megaworld’s Twin Lakes Hotel is the first and only vineyard hotel in the Philippines, with an actual plot that grows its own grapes. The European-inspired property is inspired by and patterned after Toledo, Spain, where Emperador, also under the Megaworld brand, has a vineyard.

The grapes at Twin Lakes Hotel aren’t just for decor. Guests can pick and take home grapes, and take photos. Once harvested, they are integrated in the scrub treatment at L’Uva Spa and food and beverages such as the Twin Lakes Pizza.

A dip at the heated infinity pool here is an excellent way to while away the morning while soaking in the view of the Tagaytay landscape. After a swim, families can dine al fresco at The Twin Lakes Cafe, where they can try local favorites, such as a piping-hot bowl of bulalo (beef stew) or pochero (stew with meat, vegetables, and plantain).

Parents looking for drinks can try the Zabana Rum, a spirit distilled from the pure Filipino sugarcane and aged in a double process using American bourbon and Spanish sherry casks. A shopping village is nearby with restaurants, retail shops, and more. Warm up after a stroll outdoors at the kids corner and game room back at the hotel.

They can also choose to relax in a variety of spacious rooms, from the two-bedroom Family Suite to the Presidential Suite. Rooms come with balconies that offer a sweeping view of Taal Lake. Pets are also welcome at Twin Lakes Hotel. In fact, their photos are featured in an LED billboard at the entrance upon check-in.

Acacia Resort

The resort takes its name from a century-old acacia tree that stands on the property. Today, it provides cool shade for guests lounging at the pool.

Acacia is known for its passion for its fully-equipped dive center, which comes with a state-of-the-art gas-filling facility and a dive crew that can assist both beginners and hobbyists. Instructors offer courses for those who want to learn, while experienced divers can rent twin cylinders and other equipment.

Spotters are available to guide underwater photographers who want to shoot reefs, corals, and diverse marine life. Dives are accompanied by boat and land support crew, trained to handle equipment with competency and care.

Non-divers have plenty of things to do at Acacia Resort. They can go snorkeling, island hopping, and swimming in the pool or the beach. Soon, the resort will be offering paddleboarding and kayaking. Kids can entertain themselves with a bubblemaker.

Ending the day at the Dive Bar is highly-recommended, which offers the best seats to see Anilao’s sunset. Order drinks from the bartenders, who were trained by mixologists in Poblacion, Makati.

The resort’s menu also serves international fare. For example, the breakfast menu features Filipino, Chinese, Japanese, and Western sets. The mains also feature dishes from around the globe, such as Ramyun from Korea, Pork Banh Mi from Vietnam, Chicken Yakitori from Japan, and Schnitzel with Sauerkraut from Germany. The Caesar salad, hamburger, and panna cotta are popular dishes.

The queen-sized beds are a welcome respite after an aquatic adventure, before another day of discovering more under the sea.

Club Punta Fuego

Club Punta Fuego is the place to go if you want peace, privacy, and luxury. The club is an exclusive enclave on the coast of Nasugbu, with a picturesque view of the West Philippine Sea.

Club Punta Fuego is an enjoyable staycation spot as it is brimming with activities. The resort has 12 beach coves, including the 800-meter stretch at Terrazas Beach Club. There are also water sports facilities like water skiing, jet skiing, banana boating, snorkeling, wakeboarding, and kayaking.

Those who’d like to stay within the property can explore the series of pools. There are two infinity pools and others that are perfect for families and kids.

Other noteworthy activities include tennis, indoor squash, pool, darts, and other games. Players can visit the Punta Fuego Golf Club, a nine-hole executive course with lush foliage and a view of the Nasugbu coast. After a day of intense activity, the Ylang Ylang Spa is the best place to unwind with its menu of massages and treatments. The day can be capped off at any of Punta Fuego’s dining spots. There’s Filipino-Spanish food at San Diego Restaurant, fresh and natural ingredients at the al fresco Il Jardineto, and drinks at Traditions and Contradictions Bar and Lounge.

End the day at one of Club Punta Fuego’s 33 Spanish-Mediterranean rooms and casitas. Accommodations feature either a balcony or veranda, with a view of the sunset over the West Philippine Sea.

Laguna

Sulyap Gallery Café & Boutique Hotel

This two-hectare property puts Filipino cultural heritage to the fore with a suite of restored colonial-era casa. Sulyap is a mix of bed-and-breakfast, gallery and cafe, and museum.

The bed-and-breakfast consists of four casa, sumptuously designed with capiz shell windows, hardwood flooring, and wooden furniture. This design philosophy extends to the Sulyap Museum, whose antique collection includes wooden furniture, ceramics, and religious artifacts.

The cafe and restaurant has been awarded as the best and cleanest in Laguna for two consecutive years. Its menu features traditional Filipino cuisine, including San Pablo City’s native dishes. Try the kulawo, made from either eggplant or puso ng saging (banana blossom) and pinayti (micro-shrimps from Lake Palakpakin). These are cooked in coconut milk, resulting in a creamy and unforgettable dish.

Flor’s Garden also cultivates edible plants at Jardin ng Buhay (Garden of Life). The garden hosts tours that allow guests to discover cooking ingredients, such as kadok leaves for tempura and omelettes, fern leaves for salads, and Vietnamese coriander leaves served with fish sauce.

A wide variety of plants at Flor’s Garden attracts butterflies, making the venue a sanctuary for these winged beauties. The whole property acts as an oasis for them and they flit from one plant to another.
